Every Major Daily Newspaper to Weigh in on Prop 53 to Date Urges NO on 53
VENTURA COUNTY – Calling it a “bad idea” and noting “it displays the worst aspects of the state’s flawed initiative process,” the Ventura County Star today urged its readers to vote no on Proposition 53.
“Proposition 53 is the other initiative on the ballot this fall that is the idea of one man and funded by him. It's a bad idea and should be rejected,” began the editorial.
“One of the proposition's many problems is that once it is part of the constitution, it also could stop future worthwhile projects. It would require statewide votes on revenue bond projects that might benefit only a small area of the state and are supported by those residents. Why should someone in Ventura be voting on a revenue bond project for a big ticket item in Shasta County?
“This is a bad idea. It displays the worst aspects of the state's flawed initiative process. Vote no on Proposition 53.”
The Star joins the state’s other major newspapers in opposing Proposition 53. They include The Los Angeles Times,Sacramento Bee, San Diego Union-Tribune, San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News, East Bay Times, Bakersfield Californian, Santa Rosa Press Democrat, Santa Cruz Sentinel, and the Monterey Herald in opposing Prop 53.
More than 250 organizations across the state representing local government, public safety, water, business, labor, agriculture, educators and are opposing Prop 53.
